The workshop takes place on the campus of the FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany. Hagen is located in the center of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the southeastern edge of the Ruhr area. It is well connected to the rail and road network and can be conveniently reached from several major airports.

The campus is located uphill to the northeast of the city center. There are several bus routes connecting it to the city center and the main station. It is also very close to the Autobahn 45 and 46 and many parking lots are available. Of course, walking and cycling the city is also an option, but be aware of the hilly terrain.

On campus we will use the following facilities (click on the respective building for a corresponding marker in the map below):

Lunch: Mensa (Gebäude 4)
Dinner on Thursday: Neue Färberei (Dödterstraße 10, 58095 Hagen)

Bus Connection: Bus lines 540 (Campuslinie) and 515 connect the campus (stop at Hagen FernUniversität), the main station (stop at Hagen Hauptbahnhof), and the city center. There are some other bus stops within walking distance with more options. Please note that operations are severely reduced at night. The local transport association VRR provides an online travel planner (in English).
Excursion Dechenhöhle: Dechenhöhle 5, 58644 Iserlohn
We will arrange for a bus transfer from the campus to the cave and back directly to the social dinner. There is also a direct train from Hagen Hauptbahnhof.
Excursion Museum: Emil Schumacher Museum, Museumsplatz 1 58095 Hagen
This is in the city center, please use public transportation.

Traveling to Hagen

Plane: Nearby airports are Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Köln-Bonn, and Frankfurt. There are public transport options with at most one change from each of these.

Train: Take a train to Hagen Hauptbahnhof (main station). There are connections from many points of departure across Germany.

Car: The campus is located close to the interchange of Autobahn 45 and 46 (Autobahnkreuz Hagen) and is surrounded by many public parking lots.

Accommodation

We have reserved rooms at the following two accommodations. Other options include additional hotels, apartments, and a hostel. You can find them on most online booking sites. We recommend staying closer to the University or inner city rather than the train station. We can particularly recommend the accommodations where we have reserved rooms.

Independent of potential hotel breakfast options, the 'Mensa' (University cafeteria) also offers breakfast on weekdays starting from 6:30 AM.
